  7. Shout-out to your bloggy BFF! Matt Rodriguez at ShakeFire
  8. Confession time: Who was your first celeb crush? Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford.
  9. So, you’ve got writer’s block. Tried and true trick for getting over it? Step away for a little bit and re-energize yourself. Watch a movie, read a book, get lost in Pinterest. And then return to your original project with a set of fresh eyes.

Everywhere Society Spotlight Questionnaire

  1. What are you reading these days? Although I love to read, my reading list is very minimal nowadays. It consists of my devotional and other blogs. I mean, working full time, wife-ing, blogging, chasing a toddler and being pregnant is pretty time consuming.
  2. Tell us about your most epic childhood birthday party. They were all truly epic. My parents always had the coolest themes and most elaborate birthday cakes. Seriously, for my Barbie birthday cake, I had a cake dress made around an actual Barbie. It was so cool!
  3. Who’s your spirit animal? So… I saw this shirt on Pinterest and it says, “Coffee is my animal spirit.” Yep, that’s me. Give me all the coffee.
  4. Okay then, so who’s your doppelgänger? Ah! This is always hard, I really don’t think I look like anyone, but Carrie Underwood or Lauren Conrad are the only ones that have been mentioned.
  5. If you had to describe your personality with a cocktail what would it be? Why? Yikes, another hard question. I don’t drink many cocktails, but probably something like a mimosa or margarita. Classic, fresh, and always a good time.
  6. Shout-out to your bloggy BFF! One of my real life besties just started a blog and she is AMAZE… so you should check her out: Kaitlyn at Create The Happy.
  7. Confession time: Who was your first celeb crush? Think Home Improvement. Man of the House. Jonathan Taylor Thomas for sure. I eventually grew out of that phase and moved on to Chad Michael Murray.
  8. First album you ever owned? Spice Girls. DUH.
  9. Who’s your ultimate blogspiration? I absolutely adore Unveiled Wife for her marriage posts, House of Rose for lifestyle, Pink Peonies for fashion, and Kailee Wright overall.
  10. So, you’ve got writer’s block. Tried and true trick for getting over it? Brainstorming sesh with my hubby or a little me-time filled with Pinterest surfing or a trip to Target. Yeah, one of those.
  11. Top 3 pet peeves in life: My biggest pet peeve would be having to fill up my car with gas. (This is the one thing I’m a diva about, and thankfully my husband always makes sure my tank is full). Another would have to be people parking too close to my car. I mean seriously, how am I supposed to get a car seat or child back in the car? It’s not like you can move your car for more space or crawl in on the other side when you have a child in your arms. My third pet peeve is when the trash smells bad… take that outside.
  12. What’s your number one blogging/content creation tip? Be yourself! Share what is in your heart and what you are passionate about, people want to know YOU!
  13. We love working with you and hope you feel the same about us. What’s been your fave Everywhere campaign to be a part of? I loved working with Everywhere on the Carter’s PJ campaign late last year. Check it out.

Danica Kombol & Ana Flores

Society Spotlight: Ana Flores

There’s a special place in heaven for women who launch blogging conferences. On the one hand, it seems easy as pie – pull together a group of super social women who love to blog, invite them for a weekend at a swanky hotel. Realistically, there’s so much more that goes into it – you have to invest your own time, energy and dollars into an idea that you hope will attract sponsors and attendees; then once you have them all there, you’ve got to keep them entertained and fed! So frankly, when I heard that my good friend Ana Flores was organizing We All Grow, an entirely new blog-conference aimed at her Latina community, I thought she’d lost her marbles!

I like to joke that Ana is your classic under-achiever. She’s a published author (having written the authoritative book on raising bi-lingual children, Bilingual is Better), the founder of the premiere Hispanic influencer community Latina Bloggers Connect, co-founder of the on-line community Spanglish Baby, has appeared on The Today Show, been featured in Parenting Magazine, and even graced the cover of a Corn Flakes Cereal box! That’s not all! She’s been heralded by sites like Babble as one of the Top 100 Mom blogs and is a doting mom to the most adorable daughter ever. So with all that “underachieving”, I’m shining the Everywhere Society Spotlight on Ana, whom I still sometimes refer to as LA Flowers, her original Twitter handle.

I recently caught up with Ana and asked her about We All Grow:

Q. What’s your inspiration for launching We All Grow?

Ana: Well Danica, as you know, you and I first met at a blogging conference. I’ve always navigated both cultures that way. Over the years, I attended so many general market blogging conferences and I took away so much from those experiences to help grow my blog and my business. I wanted to bring those same kinds of connections and the learning that takes place in the general market back to my community, the Latina blogging community. I very much so wanted to create a similar environment and provide a space where Latina bloggers can truly learn and grow their skills.

Q: How will this be different from other blogging conferences?

Ana: Truth? I’ve been grabbing inspiration from the best of the best blogging conferences for a while now. I’m hoping We All Grow will be an incredible mix of all these amazing blogging conferences I’ve attended over the years (like Blissdom and Evo, which no longer exist or Blogalicious and Mom 2.0). My plan is to take what I’ve learned from my favorite conferences and combine it with a healthy sprinkling of what we bring from our culture.

Q: What one thing do you hope bloggers who attend your conference take away from We All Grow?

Ana: I hope they walk out and say, “I have a skill set that I now understand and I’m taking this skill set with me back home to implement immediately and help me grow my blog.” I also hope they walk away and understand, “This is a business.”

Q. How do you find the time?

Ana: I’m never going to find the time. I find the right people. Because there is no more time! Finding amazing people is how I invest back in my business.

Hopefully by shining the Everywhere Society spotlight on Ana Flores, it will help her find the right people to attend and help cultivate, We All Grow. I’ll be there supporting the conference in LA come February, will you?

Danica Kombol and Elena Sonnino Everywhere Society Spotlight

Society Spotlight on Elena Sonnino

It’s only fitting that our very first Everywhere Society spotlight goes to Elena Sonnino. Elena may be best known for her blog Live Do Grow, but to me she’s known as that friend you can call on when you are in a doubting mood. Elena does not just live, do, and grow in this world, but she also studies it and brings that studious commentary and thoughtfulness to both her friendship AND her writing. She shares a goal on her blog to empower teens to use their voice for good. Truth is, that’s Elena’s whole gestalt, “using her voice for good.”

Elena traveled to Haiti with Everywhere two years ago. We took a trip to meet the artisans behind the Macy’s Heart of Haiti program. We work on this campaign pro-bono, which unfortunately meant we could not sponsor the trip. Elena was about to leave her job as a teacher to start blogging full-time, not exactly a flush time in her life! Despite this, she did not hesitate to make the financial investment of flights, hotel and most importantly her time and her voice. Elena has continued to support Heart of Haiti and its artisans.

Honestly, any time Everywhere has a cause campaign, Elena is the first to jump on board. We had barely posted on Facebook that we had joined Mary’s Fischer’s 100 Good Deeds movement and before we could even ask, Elena had purchased a bracelet and wrote a blog post about it. When we wrote an e-book, Growing Up Giving, about how parents could encourage philanthropy with their children, we knew Elena would be our spirit guide. She was their offering editorial suggestions, commentary and encouragement.

So with that, we salute Elena Sonnino in our first Society Spotlight for being so studious and thoughtful, as well as for using her voice for good!
